TEPRI is developing a comprehensive data repository in order to raise awareness of energy poverty and serve as a resource and reference for industry, policymakers, academia and other stakeholders. There is no other statewide entity, that TEPRI is aware of, that is consolidating comprehensive information about the energy-poverty nexus in Texas or the nation. This is an important knowledge gap that TEPRI seeks to fill. The Energy Poverty Clearinghouse portal is a unique project that will bolster cross-communication of best practices, technologies and unique services across the industry. It will also assist in increasing awareness of current and future opportunities and challenges in this consumer market segment, and contribute to improving the overall health and well-being of low-income households across the state.
Objective: Create a comprehensive and user-friendly portal of information on publications, studies, news, websites, and other resources that are specific to the topic of energy and poverty in Texas and beyond. This portal will be a seminal “go-to” source to inform stakeholders and the general public on all the trending issues, technologies and services related to low-income energy burdens in America.
Methodology: TEPRI has engaged with a professional social and behavioral research organization to conduct a landscape analysis and research design, and is utilizing graduate research assistants for project implementation of the Energy Poverty Clearinghouse portal.
Time Horizon: Fall 2016 – Fall 2017
